Bar Italia

22 Frith StreetLondon W1D 4RP020 7437 4520

Café Italia has somewhat of a reputation amongst the coffee drinkers of London although, I’m not sure if it’s a reputation that they would necessarily appreciate. I’m not even sure what to call the ancient thing they use to make their coffee but suffice to say Noah bought it with him when he fled the great flood! Anyway, I don’t really think it helps the coffee.
Now, I know I’m treading on sacred ground here for a lot of people, but really what is it about bar Italia that is so good? I hadn’t been there for quite some time and was tempted back by a caffeine loving accomplice.
We sat on those silly, weird seats that don’t move so you can’t talk properly to the person next to you, and pretty quickly decided that it wasn’t the great place for a conversation unless you were seated outside.
Maybe it’s the glimpses of semi-celebrities seated, on the odd occasion outside this legendary café, or maybe it is just that it has been around so damn long…who knows?
My flat, inky coffee didn’t really appeal, in fact… it was kinda hard to get down, so it was a good thing that it was quite a small cup…until you come to pay and then you wonder why you are paying so much for a thimble full of black ink.
Sorry, guys but there it is… I’m afraid both my mate and I thought the coffee was really overrated and that it was uncomfortable and far too expensive for a second round.
Bar Italia actually drove us to the pub!
That’s a first for this Guru!
